After attending my two days of training with Don I realize what a great opportunity this craft will allow me. The training was very detailed and well planned. The skills learned and the products produced are worth every penny. (of the tuition). Kevin C. 9/15/10

I spent three weeks as Don's neighboring artist this Christmas and was impressed with the quality of detail and variety of theme in his concrete and cement pieces.  The quality and very reasonable prices made his work very attractive and he had a steady stream of customers in what was a very slow show for myself and others.  Chris D 2/1/10.

I hand craft leather masks.  I've been in art markets with Don and he always out sells every other artist there. He really is a marketing genius.  S.M. 2/4/10

Question:

Journalists are taught five questions to get answers to to fully report a happening.   Here is the scoop on this program!

WHO?  Don Wurst was born near the end of WW II in Northwest Pennsylvania and grew up there.  He worked his way through a state collage nights as a baker and a split bolt splitter.  After teaching a couple of years he ran a foundation, was a Human Resources manager,  stock broker, and a Realtor.  He taught at the U. of S. FL. and ran a barter exchange.  The Swedish born artist, Ingrid Engberg, taught him mold making, casting and finishing decorative art.  About 1993 he opened "Old World Casting" on Magazine Street in New Orleans.  He promoted the store by going to Arts and Crafts shows.  Soon his competitors started buying from him so he fell into the wholesale business.  Soon, out of town customers wanted shipping and again Don fell into an internet business.  911 killed off business for a while.  Katrinia killed of the recovered business.  Cancer almost killed Don in 2009.

WHAT?  It is time to pass on what I've learned and what I've been taught.  This is a two day workshop to put the student in his(her) own profitable business.  My average one day A & C Show sales is $1,000 with my high being $2,800 and my low about $300.  If you can sit up and take food you can succeed in this business.  I will teach you mold making, casting, finishing, and especially selling in just two days.

WHEN?  You select the two or three days you want, email or call to confirm the dates with me, pay a deposit, and come on down!  At least 1 week notice is needed.  Two day schedule is 8 to 5 each day and three day schedule is 9 to 4 two days and 9 to 1 on the third day.

WHERE?    My studio in New Orleans is where you will learn your new business.  (Actually it is not a new business--it has been around for more than 5,000 years.)

WHY?  To make money!  You and me.  If I can help a couple of hundred people get a business that they can completely control and which has been proven successful then my life has been well spent.

How?  Just bring a good attitude and confirm with me the two days you want.  oldworldcaster@yahoo.com or 601-334-0599 or oldworldcaster@gmail.com

The first week of August of 2011 I had the pleasure of apprenticing with Don Wurst of Old World Casting.   In three days, I learned more than I EVER thought possible!     We showed up, ready to work, but no clue as to what we'd actually be doing.  Don was ready, he had a workbook and a plan all ready to go.       We learned fast and furious on how to cast and make molds.  It was a wonderful experience, we learned a trade.  One that I can pass on from generation to generation.  One that has become a family business, and    will continue to grow for years.  E & D
